What is 3D laser cutting suitable for?
WBM Staalservice has specialised in the latest 3D laser cutting technology. 3D laser cutting gives our customers new opportunities for designing, developing and producing products made from steel plate. Our design engineers benefit from much greater versatility in shaping products. As a result, WBM and its customers are able to:
- Cut round holes or other shapes which are close to or actually in a bent edge in the material. No deformation occurs, contrary to the conventional approach.
- Design products were 2 holes lie on exactly the same centreline.
- Cut holes and contours after bending or other forming processes.
- Construct products with a bend line on a narrow base by bending them first and then cutting away material.
Formats for 3D laser cutting
The laser cell which WBM Staalservice can put to work on your behalf is a TLC 1005: a universal, 6-axis laser machining centre. This TLC 1005 TRUMPF laser machining centre is capable of welding or cutting anything from the tiniest of implants for medical technology up to complete basic body shells.
Our 3D laser cell is equipped with a two-table changeover system which allows fully automatic changeovers. Both tables measure 4000 x 1500 mm and are set up in a diagonally opposed arrangement. The machine’s working range is 4000 x 1500 x 750 mm: as a result, it can even cut steel in thicknesses from 1 to 15 mm and stainless steel in thicknesses from 1 to 8 mm. Our 6-axis laser system combines the accuracy of a CNC system with the precision and reproducibility of a laser.
Design freedom thanks to 3D laser cutting
- Creating holes and other shapes that are close to or inside a setting edge. These do not deform as with the conventional approach;
- Designing products where 2 holes lie exactly in each other’s centre line;
- Cutting holes and contours after setting or other deformation processes;
- Constructing products with a setting line on a narrow base by first setting and then cutting away.
What materials and semi-finished products do we process?
Flat sheets
Flat sheets can be provided with welding edges up to 45 degrees or countersunk holes. We process sheets up to 4000 mm.
Formed sheet products
WBM Steel Service provides any formed sheet steel product with holes and cutting contours.
Straight profiles
With our cutting machines, we can cut any shape from a straight profile, such as u-profiles, t-profiles, IPE-profiles and many other tailor-made profiles.
Formed profiles
With our cutting machines, the formed profiles can be shortened afterwards and provided with cut-outs if necessary
Tubular profiles and/or formed sheet metal can be provided with a hole pattern afterwards to guarantee correct dimensions. The formed part can be made completely from an idea to the finished product.
Carbon steel
S235JR-S355MC-S420MC, S500MC, S700MC, S355J2+N and S690QL.
Stainless material
In particular; RVS304 and RVS316.
Aluminium
Various aluminium types including; AW5754.
Wear-resistant materials
Including; Hardox, Domex and Raex.
Exotic materials
Including C45, CrMo4, Inconel and heat-resistant stainless steel.
WBM’s engineers can help you to analyse whether your current 2D cut and welded construction can be produced even more cost-effectively. For example, by bending the metal plate first and then cutting.
Our expert staff at WBM will be delighted to contact you to discuss whether 3D cutting can help you to generate greater added value.
