Just before the summer holidays, WBM was audited for ISO 14001; the environmental certificate. Das Auditteam zeigte sich vom Umweltmanagementsystem der WBM überzeugt; es erfüllt alle Anforderungen. This means that – in addition to already having a certificate for the quality management system (ISO 9001) – WBM now has environmental certification.
ISO 14001 is the internationally accepted standard with requirements for an environmental management system, which is used to develop an environmental policy appropriate to the organisation and ensure its implementation. Its assessment is carried out by TÜV NORD Netherlands.
Safety and environmental requirements
Obtaining this certificate means, among other things, that at WBM, the quality manual, the storage of hazardous substances and the sorting and control of waste flows meet all set requirements, in terms of both safety and environment. In addition, an emergency drill took place to test and, where necessary, tighten the protocols in the event of an incident.
Making operations more sustainable
For WBM, this is another step in making its operations more sustainable, something that is high on the agenda and for which several adjustments have already been made. Since summer 2021, 1264 solar panels have been installed on the plant’s roof. From October 2021 to June 2023, this has generated 867320 kWh of electricity and saved 551.8 ktonnes of CO2. In addition, two electric forklifts drive through the factory.
